Welcome!
HellasWiFi comes from the word Hellas which is synonym to "Greece" and the term WiFi (Wireless Fidelity). The main goal of HellasWiFi is to present the greek wireless communities movement and share some elements and news of wireless community networking with other people around the globe.
For this purpose, most of the website content is multilingual and supports greek and english as well. We hope to add much more useful content in the future and make this site a point of reference for greek wireless enthusiasts.
MikroTik WinBox for Mac StandAlone
The Winbox console is used for accessing the MikroTik Router configuration and management features, using graphical user interface (GUI).
Even though, the Winbox Console plugin loader, the winbox.exe program is a Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7 executable file, there is a way to have Mikrotik Winbox on an Intel Mac by using "Wine" & "WineBottler" to create a wrapper for the "winbox.exe" executable.

My Recomendation: Mikrotik's RouterOS Βοοκ
Good technical knowledge is a must for the people of Wireless Community Networks. How about to buy a book for it? "Learn RouterOS" by Dennis Burgess is a the first book specializing in RouterOS configuration, features, and implementation. Many of you know that there are many features that RouterOS has to offer, in this book, the author covers the features, implementation of these features, recommendations by experienced Mikrotik Certified Engineers and best practices that the author uses in everyday consulting. You will go though basic configurations, including wireless setups, learn how to protect your network, and your router, as well as learn to use RouterOS in Solar Setups from someone who has deployed RouterOS many times! Not only do you learn RouterOS, but the author also covers "The Dude", Mikrotik's Network Monitoring System, and Mikrotik's "User Manager".
Google introduces a new public DNS service
Google has announced a brand new service, a new experimental public DNS resolver.
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's "phone book". Every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they complete loading. As a result, the average Internet user performs hundreds of DNS lookups each day, that collectively can slow down his or her browsing experience.
As Google claims, the new DNS infrastructure could significantly improve the browsing experience for all web users as It enhances DNS speed but also improve security and validity of results
Routerboard RB800
The RB800 is an advanced high performance wireless platform. It has four miniPCI slots, three Gigabit ethernet ports, two daughterboard connectors, a miniPCI-e slot and a compact flash slot.
The two daughterboard connectors allow you to expand the number of wired and wireless ports, and the new high power CPU is capable of supporting them all.
This is the new definition of wireless networking power.
Combined with RouterOS - RB800 is the most powerful and sophisticated wireless router, firewall and bandwidth manager. With many expansion options.
IEEE ratifies 802.11n Wi-Fi standard
The IEEE standards group has officially ratified 802.11n, the most recent standard for Wi-Fi. The move officially takes the wireless spec out of the draft status it has been in since 2006 and lets companies develop 11n hardware knowing that it will work properly with any device that supports the technology. Officials plan to publish the final standard in mid-October.
